Inevitably whenever something bad happens in the Hiddleston fandom, there are a bunch of fans who insist that we move on from it and there are a bunch of fans that insist we only focus on the good part of fandom. Ya know what, that is incredibly counter-productive. We know there are good people in fandom and we know this fandom has done good things. What is not good is refusing to acknowledge the bad things that have happened because if you really care about Tom Hiddleston, his loved ones, and his co-workers, you would give them the decency and respect to address the utter bullshit that has gone down. 

I write this in response to the recent shit that has happened and that is that Ted Allpress’ twitter account was faked. I am not even going to address Tom Hiddleston’s twitter-bio change because it’s irrelevant and everyone seems to be more concerned about his response to shit that happens in fandom, or what they think is his response, than the problematic instance itself.

I just want to remind everyone that this is not the first time something problematic has happened, far from it. Hiddleston has had his private photos distributed on Tumblr and has had the private photos of his loved ones, his older sister and her baby, distributed on Tumblr by a rather malicious blogger. When this happened there were various people refusing to take down the photos and even encouraging the spread of them. There were various people who were more concerned that Hiddleston would be mad at them than they were about the instance of privacy invasion.

Hiddleston has been stalked down for photos and autographs more often than is acceptable. He and his filming crew have had to stay hauled up in their hotel rooms because fans who were disturbing hotel guests would not leave the premises until they got to meet their ‘idol.’ He doesn’t make much of a fuss but people follow him in droves and take what little time he has to himself. He has even been threatened by fans who do not get what they want - the absence of ‘loki’ pictures from Thor 2 causing some fans to take to twitter and send him death threats of all things. This isn’t even the first time someone has impersonated someone he has worked with. Supposedly fans have set up fake twitters of workers from the Thor or Avengers set before and have tried to contact him. Now, we’ve reached yet another new level of creepy-as-fuck as a child has had their privacy invaded and has been impersonated on twitter. 

It’s the small things too that add up. People harping on every little thing he does. People bashing and threatening his co-stars or loved ones. People very directly harassing him. People not allowing him the space to get angry and expecting him to treat them nicely even after such horrible things have happened. These things take a toll on a person and each thing that happens must test his patience. If you think that focusing more on what makes this fandom great and completely ignoring the bad is the best way to go you really need to reevaluate your priorities because you obviously do not actually care about Hiddleston at all. None of us deserve his kindness. We are privileged to have it and privileges can get taken away. Quit being selfish and address the damn problems. Ignoring them is the same as condoning them. 

Personally I do not care if he chooses to delete his twitter and make his life more private than it is if it makes his life easier. It’s better than having to deal with the lot of you. And if you don’t think you’re a problematic fan, great then this shouldn’t offend you. Getting offended like this is a personal attack against you is refusing to acknowledge that this isn’t about you. This is about Hiddleston and others, like Ted Allpress, and their right to be treated with dignity and compassion. Be more empathetic fandom and grow the fuck up I s2g.

if you are so desperate and so unhinged that you somehow decide that impersonating someone the celebrity you’re terrifyingly obsessed with knows well in order to “gain their trust” and meet them

you need help

you need to be taken to a professional and you need a lot of help

ETA: and if you have put a child’s safety at risk by doing the above, you need to be arrested and dealt with accordingly
